What’s On

This Year’s Games

You can find the list of games being run this year on Wednesdays and Sundays here:

2016-2017 Games List

Please remember, that games begin with our traditional one-shot session on Wednesday 28th of September, and Campaigns proper begin on Wednesday 5th of October, so you can try out a game on the 28th, and if you decide it’s not for you, move to a different one on the 5th.

(P.S. If you have a game you are wanting to run and haven’t told us yet, please email the NoDDSoc account (noddsoc [at] sheffield.ac.uk) ASAP to have it added to the list).

Society AGM

Hi everyone,
Just to reiterate what I said last night, and for those who weren’t there, our society AGM, where we elect our committee for the next year will be on the 29th of March.
We need nominations in for the various positions by the 22nd to ensure ballots can be prepared.
The positions available are listed below, with their responsibilities to the society. To run for the positions of President, Secretary, Treasurer or Inclusions officer, you MUST be a student at the University of Sheffield during the year in which you are on the committee, but all other positions are open to any member of the society.
We MUST have at least a President, Secretary, Treasurer and Inclusions Officer for the Society to run next year, so nominations for these positions are especially important (We currently have 1 nominee for President and Treasurer, but no others of these positions)
Please note you can run for multiple positions, but President, Secretary and Treasurer are exclusive roles, so cannot be combined with other positions.
If you wish to nominate yourself, please send an email to noddsoc(at)sheffield.ac.uk or contact myself or Jez to be added to the ballot.

Society General Meeting

On the 22nd, we will be holding a Society General Meeting to vote on some proposed changes to the society constitution, which will be attached to this post for everyone to view.

The aim of these changes is to codify the roles of the Committee Members to ensure that each of them is fully aware of their duties to the society, and that essential work is done for the society, as to date, some things, such as the games list and members list have been done by a variety of committee members, and no one person had responsibility.
In addition, the second set of changes is to codify our AGM process, as we believe the system we currently have, a show-of-hands, is very open to social pressure, even with the “eyes closed” procedure, thus we wish to turn it into a proper balloted election, to hopefully reduce this.
Please feel free to discuss the proposed changes with us, either on this post or via email, we welcome any feedback.
Finally, we are now offering to book spaces for our members in the Student’s Union. If you wish to book a space, please message Jez or email us with the times you’d like, as well as the number of people you need a room for, and we will endeavour to book an appropriate space for you. This is not just for during the exam period, if anyone wishes to book space outside of regular NoDDSoc times during the year, we will do so then. Please be aware, we will be recording who has what spaces booked, as with all our bookings, we are responsible for the state the room is left in, so if you trash the place and we get charged, we’ll pass the charges on.

Proposed Constitutional Amendments

Lord Governor’s Ball

YOU ARE CORDIALLY INVITED to a grand ball in the Lord Governor’s mansion!

AS YOU KNOW, The Imperium’s grand crusade to reclaim this planet in the name of the God-Emperor of Humankind has raged for quite some time… but that’s no excuse to let our standards slip!

COME TO RUB SHOULDERS with the finest of Imperial society, leave behind the war for a few hours, and ignore the sounds of artillery shells falling on the homes of poor people.

A SMALL LARP GAME will be running for anyone who wishes to dabble in devious political intrigue… or to use their deductive skills to pry into the Lord Governor’s dirty little secrets!

A FORMAL DRESS CODE is requested, though not mandatory – there is a war on, after all!

If anyone would care to costume themselves appropriately for the Warhammer 40K setting, that would be amazing… alternatively, some sort of wartime formal attire would be superb – perhaps dress uniforms, ballgowns, tuxedos etc… or if this does not suit your style, please just smarten up as best you can. If anyone has a specific costume in mind, do let us know and we will write you up a LARP character!

WHERE AND WHEN: The Lord Governor’s mansion will be located in the upstairs of the University Arms Pub, on Saturday 4th February 2017 – that is, just at the end of the exam period – and festivities will begin at 7pm. So you have plenty of time to make a costume, or have your suit cleaned, or learn how to tie a tie.

The Nationals

Hi guys,

The National Student Roleplaying and Wargaming Championships (the nationals, for short) are on the 21-23 of April, at the University of Nottingham’s University Park Campus this year. It might seem a long time away, but time flies and things need to be organised in advance.

The nationals are a really fun annual gathering of university societies. It’s technically a competition, but the main focus is to meet up with new people and have fun roleplaying, possibly in systems you haven’t played before.

Here’s the info pack. If you want to book rooms on campus I suggest you do so early. As with the Christmas meal, someone will be going around taking names and your three category choices in the next few weeks. The nationals cost £25, and it is first come first serve on your game choices.

A reminder we are looking into getting a coach this year.

The deadline for paying and choosing games is the 7th of December, but if you can pay earlier that would be great.

It’s a really fun experience which many of our members have gone to every year, so I hope many of you sign up.

If you won’t be at Wednesday sessions and want to go, message Rebecca on Facebook or send an email to noddsoc@shef.ac.uk.

Christmas Meal

Hi NoDDsoc

This years Christmas meal will once again be at Cafe Rouge, on 14th December at 19:00.

Here is a copy of the menu: http://www.caferouge.com/…/sheffield-s…/christmas-party-menu

Cafe Rouge is very good at catering to various dietary requirements, and if nothing on the christmas menu takes your fancy you should be able to order on their normal menu as well.

A committee member will be going round in the next couple of weeks taking orders and deposits (which is £5, you pay the rest of the meal cost on the night) from those who want to come along.

Deadline for menu choices and deposits is the 23rd of November.

If you won’t be at Wednesday sessions, message Rebecca on Facebook or send an email to noddsoc@shef.ac.uk.

GMs Needed

As you know, the new year is quick approaching and we need games to play!

So, if you are planning on RUNNING A GAME then we need your information.
We need GM Name, Game Title, System, No. of Players (Inc spaces already provisionally filled) and a brief description of the game!
This can be sent to any of the Committee (mainly Rob (President) or Rebecca (Social Sec) ) or the Society e-mail address; noddsoc [at] sheffield.ac.uk

Please bear in mind that our first session is the 28th, and we would like to have the full list prepared at least a few days before then.

Thank you and happy gaming!

Friends, Romans, Strange Troll Creatures of NoDDSoc.
We have announcements for you.
First of all, hope you’ve all had a great summer so far and are looking forward to another year at your favourite Roleplaying Society.
So, we have arranged the following events at the start of term, with the view to introducing new players to NoDDSoc. It would be wonderful if we could get some of you guys to come along and GM for us to help bring new members into the fold, or if you are new, to come along and meet us!

Tues 13th Sept 2016 – 4pm-6pm – Orientation Week Taster Session – Activities Zone/Coffee Revs
Tues 20th Sept 2016 – 7pm – 9pm – Intro Week Taster Session – Activities Zone/Coffee Revs
Sun 25th Sept – 1pm – 5pm – Final Taster Session – The Gallery (N.B. This is after the Activities Fair)

Then, we have the Activities Fair, where you can come along and sign up to join us for this year and receive your membership card and free dice!

Thurs 22nd Sept 2016 – 11am-4pm – Activities Fair

And lastly, having triumphed over the inscrutable machine that is the SU’s room booking system, we have our regular sessions on Wednesdays and Sundays on the gallery.
As per usual, we encourage those who are planning to run a game to prepare a one-shot to advertise your campaign for the first Wednesday session, and maybe again on the following Sunday, and then start your campaign proper on the second.

Wednesday 28th September 2016 – 6pm-10pm – 1st NoDDSoc Wednesday Meeting (One-Shots)
Sunday 2nd August 2016 – 1pm – 5pm – 1st NoDDSoc Sunday Session
Wednesday 5th August 2016 – 6pm-10pm – 2nd NoDDSoc Wednesday Meeting (Campaigns Begin)

As always, we encourage members to come and join us in Interval after our regular sessions for Drinks and Socialising, where you can swap stories about your games!

Looking forward to seeing you all in September,
The NoDDSoc Committee

Hey guys,

Today (the 13th) is the first day back.

Next week (20th) is the AGM starting at 6:30. If you wish to run you just have to turn up. If you want to run but can’t make 6:30 let me know and I’ll delay the position you want to run for till later if I can.

Ask any of the current members about what the job entails if you want to run.

Also if you want to change our constitution, e-mail us or let me know.

See you tomorrow.

New Semester Games

Hey guys,

I hope people had a good break and exams are going well.

The official first session back is the 10th February. Some DM’s may start earlier, however be aware the gallery won’t booked and is be being used for quiet revision so those who wish to will need to find elsewhere to run.

Can I have everyone who’s starting a new game and looking for players wither message me or post here.

Similarly those with continuing games who have space for new players, can you let me know?

People looking for a game come the start of term either let me know and I’ll give a list of options/get you into one, or keep an eye on this page and get in contact with GM’s.
